We MainsMusic Gilbert Becaud Lyrics by Pierre Delanoë
Synopsis
Local rebellious teenager Clotaire falls in love with his school friend Jackie, but gang violence leads him down a darker, more destructive path. After years apart, the lovers discover that every path they take leads them back. Malik Frikah, who plays 17-year-old Clotaire in this film, was a world breakdance champion at the age of 10. old 2016.
The first part with the kids is pretty good
That’s where the movie should have ended for the audience. And Gilles Lellouche would have directed one of the best French teen romances of this decade. The rest of the film, the second act, is terrible. Actors François Civil and Adèle Exarchopoulos lack chemistry together.
But it falls apart with an exaggerated and caricatured toxic masculinity
I suspect both actors should start rethinking their careers in French cinema when two newcomers Mallory Wanecque and Malik Frikah outdo them and steal the show in this confusingly mediocre film. At first glance, the film seems like a modern take on “The Count of Monte”. Cristo .. I mean the old story of a wronged young rebel who returns to seek revenge and finds his beloved.
What we have already seen
A stylized and tacky male gaze. And in the middle and at the end of the second act, the plot loses credibility. The problem, in addition to the burden of everything, is the strange determination shown by the film, which claims originality in every one of its frames, without ever achieving it. Whenever it needs to make a decision, it always chooses the most formal, the most obvious.
